Louis James Dorling was born 1894 in Wangford (Mildenhall Q3-1894 4A:749) son of James and Louisa Minnie Georgianna DORLING (née BOWERS).

1901 census...Aged 6, he was at 57 Avenue Farm, Icklingham with his father James DORLING [33] gamekeeper born Wangford; his mother Minnie G [34] born Marrass, Ireland; sister Minnie R [5] and brother William G [2] both born in Wangford.

1911 census...Aged 16, a warrener, he was still at Avenue Farm with his parents, sister Minnie Rebecca, brother William George and sister Violet Jickling [9] born Icklingham. There was another sibling, sister Daisy Mary [1893) who was staying with her uncle and aunt George and Agnes SAY at the Cricketers Inn, Gooderstone, Norfolk at the time of the 1901 census.


He enlisted in Newmarket.
He died in Woolwich (Woolwich Q3-1916 1D:1060). The only records available are CWGC and "Soldiers Died". No medal index card has been found. This may indicate his death was during training at Woolwich.


Louis Dorling is buried in Icklingham (St James) Churchyard, New ground, west end
and also commemorated on the Weather Heath Memorial (Elveden Column by the A11)
